I Will Uphold The Legacy Of My Predecessor: FCT Senator-Elect

Kingibe, who was elected as a senator on the Labour Party platform, promised to represent all citizens.

Notwithstanding their political disagreements, Ireti Kingibe, the senator-elect for the Federal Capital Territory, has pledged to carry on Philip Aduda’s legacy.

Kingibe, who was elected as a senator on the Labour Party platform, promised to represent all citizens.

In order to thank the FCT citizens for electing her to the Senate in the just completed presidential elections held on February 25, she offered the promise during a press conference.

“The FCT has other Senators before me, and they all contributed to make FCT what it is today,” Kingibe stated. I appreciate everything my predecessor has done for FCT over the past 12 years. I want him to know that I’m ready to pick up where he left off in the work.

“I’ll get in touch with the other competitors and let them know that this whole thing isn’t about me. If we all work together, we can take FCT to places it has never been. Regardless of the political party they supported in my campaign, I am prepared to collaborate with anyone.

“I am more than prepared to accept their suggestions, and I’m eager to collaborate with them to implement whatever they have done or desire.

“I’d like for them everyone to think of me as their senator. They don’t have to adopt a “oh, she’s against me or she’s not in my party” attitude. I want them to know that I am a senator for all people, regardless of party, Kingibe said.

All political parties in the FCT should view the FCT as a mother for the nation’s states, she continued.

“When things are needed, we will throw it open to everyone, and we aim to provide it to the best-qualified folks, regardless of where they are coming from,” the senator-elect said.

She described her political path, saying: “I didn’t know anything when I started in 2003. Since I stayed out of my husband’s political campaigns for various offices, I mean, I knew nothing about politics. Yet certain particular women helped me in various ways as I competed against myself.

The lawmaker, who also praised the late Maryam Babangida and former FCT Senator Khairat Abdulrazaq-Gwadabe, also mentioned the mother of the current FCT Senator, Jumai Aduda, as someone who helped her along the way.
