Hussain Kamilu, 35, of Ado village, Bani, Kaiama LGA, has been detained by the Kaiama Division of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defense Corps, NSCDC, Kwara State Command, on suspicion of raping a minor.
Hussain was detained on April 2, 2023, in connection with the suspected rape of 15-year-old Mariam Suleiman in Adogo village, Kaiama LGA. Daily Post report.
The suspect is said to have taken the girl on a bike to an unidentified location where he sexually assaulted her while threatening to keep it a secret, according to the command’s spokesman, Ayeni Olasunkanmi, who announced it in Ilorin on Tuesday.
On April 1, 2023, Mariam finally found the confidence to report the case to the NSCDC Kaiama Division.
She said that the suspect’s alleged actions had psychologically damaged her. After being detained on April 2, the suspect eventually confessed to the crimes, according to the spokesman.
The suspect, according to the report, was later brought to court on April 3 for prosecution before Magistrate Abubakar Ahmed Boro at the Magistrate Court, Kaiama, where he was summarily tried and sentenced to one year in prison for criminal trespass with the option of a fine and one year in prison for intimidation with the same option.
On the third count of forcible sexual assault, he was sentenced to one and a half years in prison without the option of paying a fine. He will serve his time at the New Bussa Correctional Service in the Niger State.
