Youth-Led Clean Energy Advocacy in Nasarawa LGAs Secures Climate Action Pledges

Empowering Youths for Nigeria’s Clean Energy Future

In a bold move to advance climate action, youth advocates under the Empowering Youths for Nigeria’s Clean Energy Future initiative—led by Mission4Impact—have secured formal commitments from three Local Government Areas (LGAs) in Nasarawa State: Keffi, Kokona, and Lafia.

These engagements mark a turning point in grassroots climate advocacy, aligning youth-led clean energy efforts with local governance structures.

Policy-Ask Presentation and MoU Signing

During a series of strategic Policy-Ask Presentations, youth champions—equipped with community insights and technical advocacy skills—presented tailored renewable energy proposals to LGA Chairmen. The sessions culminated in the signing of Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs), formalizing:

  • The LGAs’ commitment to support clean energy initiatives
  • Mission4Impact’s role in facilitating implementation

Each MoU includes a visionary clause: an annual 5% budgetary allocation within LGA budgets toward climate action and renewable energy projects—laying the groundwork for sustainable local impact.

LGA Chairman Profiles: Leading the Climate Charge

  • Keffi LGA: Under Hon. Dr. Idris Ahmad Dan Magani, Keffi endorsed renewable energy in public institutions and signed the MoU, positioning itself as a climate-forward LGA.
  • Kokona LGA: Led by Hon. Agbawu Mek Agbawu, Kokona welcomed the youth-led advocacy and committed to exploring green energy feasibility. The signed MoU embeds the climate budget clause as a call to action.
  • Lafia LGA: Hon. Mohammed Arabo Haliru, heading the capital’s LGA, engaged deeply with the youth presentation. His endorsement and MoU signing cement Lafia’s role in the emerging green governance framework.
