At the 1,000 Housing Estate near the Pegi community in Kuje Area Council of the Federal Capital Territory FCT, Abuja, at least 15 people were abducted on Sunday night by gunmen.
According to reports, the assailants opened fire erratically into the air at around 11:30 p.m. and abducted a number of people who were leaving the city at the time.
Vanguard reports that a member of the FCT Department of Development Control staff was one of the victims, according to Taiwo Aderibigbe, chairman of the Pegi Residents Association.
He said, “Along the 14-kilometer Pegi road, which has been abandoned, gunmen abducted 15 people. One of the abducted people is Shuaibu Misa, a member of the Federal Capital Territory Administration staff.
“We also observed that the husband of the woman who sells second-hand clothing at the main entrance to the estate was among the people kidnapped while they were returning from work.
“The kidnappers have not contacted the families of those abducted at the moment, but we are still trying to identify other residents abducted”
Director, FCT Department of Development Control, Mukhtar Galadima, confirmed that one of his staff was a victim.
“Yes, it is true. One of our drivers by name Shuaibu Misa was kidnapped and he has not been released”, he said.
The FCT Command of the Nigerian Police Force was yet to react to the incident as of the time of filing this report.
