The blues have had a deal in principle to appoint former player and coach, Frank Lampard as interim coach till the end of the season following the sack of Graham Potter, as reported by The Atlethic.

Lampard who will be coming in for his second spell as a manager in Chelsea could be in the dugout as early as the premier league game versus Wolverhampton at the weekend.

The former Chelsea midfielder who has been out of job since he was relieved of his duty at Everton earlier in the season will return to Chelsea on interim basis as the club seeks a permanent replacement for the recently sacked Graham Potter. It is believed that former Bayern Munich coach Julian Nagelsmann and former Barcelona coach Luis Enrique are the leading favorites for the job.

Recall that, the 44 year old Lampard had previously coached Chelsea between 2019-2021, taking charge in 84matches(All Competitions) winning 44, drawing 17 and losing 23, before he was axed and replaced by the UEFA champions League winner, Thomas Tuchel.

There are reports that Lampard will be joined by former teammate, Ashley Cole as one of the assistants alongside Joe Edwards and Chris Jones.

It will be interesting to see if Julian Nagelsmann gets the job and if it happens, it could be labeled a “managerial journey in circles” as Bayern and Chelsea will be switching their sacked coaches, respectively.
