The Federal Commissioner expressed hope that the Commission is devoted to making the 2023 Census the most reliable ever carried out in the Country during a press conference on Tuesday with the theme: 2023 Census – The Journey so Far.

The 2023 National Population and Housing Census will be credible and free of prior concerns, according to Prof. Jimoh Habibat Isah, Federal Commissioner National Population Commission in Kogi State.

The Federal Commissioner expressed hope that the Commission is devoted to making the 2023 Census the most reliable ever carried out in the Country during a press conference on Tuesday with the theme: 2023 Census – The Journey so Far.

The Commissioner stated that the Commission decided not to include questions in the census on contentious issues like religion, ethnicity, and language that could cause conflict as a result of the lessons learned from past census mistakes.

The Commissioner dispelled rumors that the Commission’s server was being hacked and revealed that the 2023 Census, unlike previous ones that used a manual process, will be conducted digitally.

While stating that the Commission has completed the Pre-Census stage with 99% completion, it also stated that it has begun and is continuing to engage in vigorous advocacy using radio and television jingles, and that training and retraining of the Commission’s high and ranking staff as well as ad-hoc staff has been completed and is still ongoing.

The Commissioner discussed the value of a census for a nation, pointing out that a reliable census would allow the government to plan for and build infrastructure that would satisfy the needs and aspirations of its people.

The country claims that the government will be able to meet housing needs and make wise decisions for the populace thanks to the information gathered.

The Federal Commissioner praised Governor Yahaya Bello for supporting the NPC in the State and mentioned that the Commission had operated in a secure and supportive environment.

The Commissioner stated that in order to fulfill its mandate, it collaborates with every security agency in the State, including the Local Vigilante. The Commissioner further stated that it holds open meetings where all viewpoints are represented in order to ensure public support.

In order to reach the difficult-to-reach areas, the Commission would use speed boat operators, making it clear that Adhoc staff would only be assigned to work in the location of their origin to ensure personnel are not in question.

The Federal Commissioner urged citizens to remain where they are to be counted so as not to put pressure on facilities located in communities after the Census
