MOVIE REVIEW: Breath Of Life Did Not Pass Logical Test

Are people really angry at God? Has God done anything that should make people be so angry at him to the point of disbelieving his existence?

Are people really angry at God? Has God done anything that should make people be so angry at him to the point of disbelieving his existence?

Let’s find out.

Breath of life

Nollywood has since been improved, churning out great cinematic movies in all genres of drama, comedy and, yes tragedy which of course was the climax of every movie back then.

Breath of life, a PrimeVideo acquired Eku Edewor production aimed at exploring life and destiny, “where one must live to fulfil their purpose and cannot die until it is completed.”

I personally feel the movie is overrated, especially that there are many unconnected events that did not pass the logical test.

Mr. Timi (Wale Ojo), a passionate youngster, a real estate investor and pastor whose life took a turn after losing his family for testifying against a notorious gang leader who at the time had the backings of some community leaders found himself in a logical quagmire.

Wale ojo

He was in between believing and disbelieving the existence of God. A role he visibly interpreted obviously that he was angry at God for not helping him.

He later found Elijah (Chimezie Imo) in the process of grief, grew to love him as a son but faulted Elijah for believing in God so much.

“He (God) will take everything that you ever love from you” he told Elijah who was unperturbed.

Mr. Timi would later turn back to God to ask that his soul be received by God as he set to donate his lungs for Elijah. Isn’t that ridiculous?

Well, they can be religious in it. Especially that ‘religion gives hope, assurance of safety by a supreme being.’ But in the room of logic, that would not pass.

It is a clear case of confusion and an intentional manipulative move. To trick God into doing your bidding.

He did not believe nor disbelieve God because he was sure, he did it for personal gratification and at best, do what suits him per time.

It is still happening today.

Elijah sure interpreted his role very well, he has unflinching belief in God and that stood till the end. He battled his faith till the end and never gave anything in substitution.

Like chief Okonkwo (Sam Dede), we have many people who believe that people are religious because they are either lazy or are poor. This may never be far from the truth.

Sam Dede as Chief Okonkwo

He was going to demolish the church but the last minute intervention from the British High Commission with the influence of Mr Timi and the magistrate court stopped him.

By the way, that scene was overplayed and annoying.

The movie portrays love for humans regardless of where it can be found and who it is to be.

This was evident in the life of Elijah and his master. It was unflinching love that moved Mr Timi to donating his lungs to a boy he never knew from day one.

Anna (Genoveva Umeh) is another character that interpreted her role very well. Her love and support for Elijah was uncompromising.

Umeh Genoveva

In all, i did not think that one has a “destiny that must be fulfilled before death”

Mr. Timi’s destiny was not for him to donate lungs to Elijah. He could refuse and Elijah could have died.

That he did it did not validate his destiny. It is practically his will at work.

This is a personal review and does not play down the actor’s creative abilities
