The World Bank has approved Kogi State as one of the five states in Nigeria eligible for the establishment of a livestock centre.
Dr. Olufemi Bolarin, the coordinator of the Kogi Livestock Productivity and Resilience Support Project (Kogi L-PRES), revealed this to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in a statement on Wednesday in Lokoja.

According to Bolarin, the approval comes after a thorough scrutiny and rigorous selection process that involves ascertaining the availability of spacious and adequate land fit for the purpose, among other requirements. He added that Kogi was lucky to be enlisted among four different states in Nigeria.

Speaking about the economic importance of this significant milestone to the state, he said, “This transformative project will catalyse economic growth, create employment opportunities, and enhance food security, solidifying the state’s position as a leader in Nigeria’s livestock sector.”
He also hinted at the potential structures that will be constructed through the project, which include “a state-of-the-art animal reference and diagnostic hospital and a modern automated poultry production system.”.
Dr. Bolarin further explained that other major projects will be incorporated into the centre to ensure its ultimatum operation. These include an artificial insemination centre, breeding, and other large and small ruminant production facilities and equipment.”.
The coordinator applauded the state governor, His Excellency Ahmed Ododo, for his unwavering support and commitment to the project’s success.
