Young African Leaders Initiative, Kwara State Hub, has announced its leadership summit, calling on passionate leaders and changemakers committed to local initiatives that make global impacts to attend. 

 

According to the released flyer by the organisation, the summit will create networking opportunities, skill-building workshops, expert knowledge, inspiration, and innovation, together with collaborative projects, as major benefits of the summit.

 

In an interview with their state coordinator, Barakat Adejumo, while explaining the primary purpose of the summit, said, “We want to have the youth together and table local initiatives and ideas that can solve global problems, and we are looking at three thematic areas: education, health, and agriculture.”

Answering the question on how they have ensured inclusivity and diversity in the YALI Kwara summit agenda, Barakat said, “We are working with what we have and we have invited some organisations, which includes people with disability and that is why, initially, the hall that we want to use is upstairs, not convenient; however, we have look for a hall that someone can get freely, even people on wheels, and all of that.”

She further expressed that “for now we have been looking for interpreters, which we have not been able to, perhaps we have a disabled. For diversity, we have a lot of diversities in Kwara State, and we have agreed to use language that we understand, where everyone will have the ability to say their understanding.”

 

During the interview, she gave responses on how the summit will address pressing issues within the theme; she expressed, “We all know that climate action is something that is threatening to every human existence right now; for every one of us, we have to contribute our quota. We designed the program in such a way that everyone will be able to contribute, even though the keynote speakers will say much.”

She also expressed that “during the registration, you will pick your thematic area, and while coming in, you will sit in that particular arrangement so that people of the same interest will sit together and come up with challenges and solutions.”

 

Barakat also made references to the climate change effect that the state witnessed this year and said that each thematic area is expected to come up with nothing more than 20 ideas

and solutions. She equally added that they are going to send their resolution to the Kwara State House of Assembly and the embassy about what they have done and assured that the wider community is carried

 

Along with the program, they have also reached out to various stakeholders, like the National Orientation Agency, to inform the people about climate action.
