In yet another painful event of violence, bandits have imposed a devastating toll on the community of Yongia Uambie Tiev in the Logo Local Government Area of Benue State.
The sad event unfolded between Tuesday and Wednesday, the 19th and 20th March, leaving seven individuals dead, leaving the community in despite.
According to Anawah Joseph, a prominent community leader, the assailants, wielding sophisticated weaponry, launched a relentless onslaught on the unsuspecting populace.
Describing the harrowing ordeal, Joseph remarked, “The Tuesday attack commenced around 4 pm and persisted until 8 pm. Then, on Wednesday, they resumed their onslaught. It wasn’t about grazing; it was a deliberate act of aggression.”
Confirming the tragic incident, Rev Adagbe Jonathan, Chairman of the local government, expressed profound sorrow over the loss of life.
“The attacks spanned across Tuesday and Wednesday claiming seven lives in Yongia Ukambie Tiev, Ukembrergya/Tswarev ward,” he lamented.
The continuing effect was beyond the immediate vicinity, drawing attention from political representatives. Abu Umoru, the lawmaker representing Apa State constituency, voiced his anguish over the relentless assault on his constituents.
“The entire Edikpo Community has been displaced. Opaha, Odugbo, Akpete, Ikobi, Akpata, Idiaha, Ochumekwu, Adiga—these communities lie desolate, ravaged by banditry,” he declared, his voice laden with sorrow and frustration.
