Hands Off NEMA’s Palliative Convoy: BIRS Warns

The warning comes in response to reports of harassment directed at motorists, especially vehicles carrying palliatives for the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA)

The Benue State Internal Revenue Service (BIRS) has issued a stern warning to racketeers and hoodlums operating illegal checkpoints, particularly at Akerior in Ushongo LGA of Benue State.

The warning comes in response to reports of harassment directed at motorists, especially vehicles carrying palliatives for the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA).

In a statement released on Wednesday, The Acting Chairman of BIRS, Emmanuel Agema, expressed concern over the nefarious activities of these hoodlums, which he stated were adversely affecting vehicles belonging to NEMA.

Agema, speaking through his Media Assistant, Jacintha Bernard, condemned the illicit behavior of individuals reportedly extorting and harassing NEMA vehicles transporting palliatives for the state.

He emphasized the deliberate efforts of these hoodlums to hinder NEMA’s mission of delivering much-needed relief to the state’s residents.

Agema further warned that individuals caught operating illegal roadblocks, particularly at Akerior, would face immediate arrest and prosecution to the fullest extent of the law. He categorically labeled such individuals as criminals and enemies of the state.
