Edward Onoja, the deputy governor of Kogi State, and Pharm. Mohammed Abdulkareem Asuku, the chief of staff to Governor Yahaya Bello, has withdrawn from the APC’s governorship primary.
The ruling APC has scheduled its governorship primary election for Friday, April 14, 2023.
This comes after the state governor, Yahaya Bello, hosted crucial stakeholders meeting at the APC state headquarters in Lokoja on Thursday, where the governor allegedly introduced his favored candidate, a former state auditor general named Ahmed Usman Ododo.
Mohammed Bello-Matawale, the governor of Zamfara State and chairman of the primary election committee, confirmed the situation during the meeting on Thursday.
Other candidates, according to Matawale, who has not withdrawn from the contest, are welcome to compete.
“On Friday, the state-wide direct primary election is open to all other candidates who have not withdrawn from the contest.
The gentlemanly accord was made public during a party stakeholder meeting on Thursday in Lokoja, he claimed.
Shortly after the meeting in Lokoja, Onoja, and Asuku announced their resignations from the governorship election via their respective verified Facebook sites.
“To God be the glory for life and divine health,” read the deputy governor Onoja’s Facebook post. HH Alhaji Yahaya Bello, my leader, and all of my followers are to be thanked for their support and prayers. Let endurance, love, and patience take the lead. I will always be grateful.
Likewise, Asuka, the governor’s chief of staff
