The National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP) has raised concerns about the high vulnerability of Kwara State to human trafficking and child labour.
This vulnerability stems from the state’s proximity to the Benin Republic and neighbouring Nigerian states with a history of human trafficking.
Saadu Ajara, the NAPTIP commandant in Kwara State, highlighted the various harmful consequences of human traffickings, such as prostitution, child labour, forced labour, and loss of life.
He emphasized the importance of collaboration between NAPTIP and the Ministry of Social Development in raising awareness and utilizing a task force to combat this issue.
Ajara reiterated NAPTIP’s mission to combat human trafficking, particularly child labor, and related matters. In response, the commissioner for Social Development expressed the state government’s willingness to work closely with NAPTIP to address the problem of human trafficking throughout the state.
She noted that through this collaboration, they could provide the necessary support to further reduce, and ultimately minimize, child trafficking in the state.
