APC Reconsiders Its Position On The Kogi Guber Primary

Recall that, the ruling party had previously stated that it would use an indirect method to hold the governorship primary polls in Kogi State.

The Kogi State All Progressives Congress (APC), in anticipation of the state’s approaching governorship election, has taken a turn on their earlier decision.

Recall that, the ruling party had previously stated that it would use an indirect method to hold the governorship primary polls in Kogi State.

However, the party’s interim chairman, Senator Abubakar Kyari, stated in a letter to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) that the party will now conduct its primaries in a direct manner.

The APC reaffirmed that Friday, April 14, 2023, will continue to be the date for the primary election.

The letter obtained by NaijaNews read; “We refer to our earlier letter dated January 25, 2023, with reference no: APC/NHDQ/INEC/19/023/191 wherein we notified the commission of the mode of the primary election for the conduct of the governorship primary election in Kogi State.

“However, our great party, the All Progressives Congress, has reviewed the modalities for the conduct of the governorship primary election in Kogi state and has therefore resorted to adopting the direct mode of the primary election instead of the indirect mode as earlier communicated.

“The date for the conduct of the primary election still remains Friday, April 14, 2023.

“Following the above, there shall be a special congress to ratify the candidate with the highest number of votes at the gubernatorial primary election in Kogi State scheduled for Saturday, April 15, 2023.”

Abdulkareem Asuku, the chief of staff to Governor Yahaya Bello, Ahmed Ododo, the auditor general, Salami Ozigi-Deedat, the commissioner for local government, and others are running for governor of Kogi State.

James Faleke, the chairman of the House Committee on Finance and the APC Presidential Campaign Council’s secretary, as well as Murtala Ajaka, the APC’s deputy national publicity secretary, and Smart Adeyemi, the senator who represents Kogi West Senatorial District, are among the other contenders, according to Naija News.
